Michael J. Allard was born in England in 1950 and grew up in what is now Zimbabwe. He studied art at Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Capetown in South Africa.
He returned to London, England in 1973 to pursue a career in photography. He worked for some time as a cover photographer for Miles Copeland, one of England’s most renowned music producers at the time. He took up painting due to an unfortunate incident in which his flat was robbed and his photography equipment was stolen – all but his paintbrushes.
In 1979, Mick received his first commission to paint a horse for Eddie Macken, a well known Irish show jumper. He moved to Ireland to continue painting commissions which included portraits of the late Bobby Kennedy’s children. Mick returned to Africa in 1984 and has painted there ever since for commissioned work and for various exhibitions.
Some of his most recent work has been to create wine labels, paintings and an amazing mural for Duckhorn Winery. These can be viewed at any time at the Duckhorn’s Napa Valley estate house, located in St. Helena, California.
